Basic Info
Name:Alphonse Elric
Bio
Alphonse Elric was born and raised in Risenbool, a small town in the east of Armestris.

His young life was very happy. He had a mother that loved him dearly, and an older brother that meant the world to him. His father left when he was quite young, a fact that makes his older brother very upset and angry whenever brought up, but Alphonse believes, like his mother, that is isn't a bad man, and will (or at least would have) return someday. Both he and his brother were fascinated by their lost father's library (which had been left behind) and poured through all the books in there, learning all about alchemy and other subjects year before most children their age could even spell the word.

Everything went awry after his mother passed away.

He and his brother, overcome by grief, decided it would be for the best to try and bring her back to life, using forbidden alchemy. They trained for it both individually, and with their sensei, Izumi.
But nothing could have prepared them for what was to happen.

His brother, Edward, lost his left leg, and Alphonse lost his entire body. In an act of desperation, Ed gave up his right arm to connect Al's soul to a suit of armor, saving him from complete oblivion in the gate.

The next years passed trying to regain what they had lost. No longer were their sights set on their mother, but instead, on each other, each wanting to restore the other to how they should have been--how they were before the ordeal occurred. Edward joined the military as the Fullmetal Alchemist, hoping that the information they could gain by that would further their aims.

After years of struggle and numerous near-death experiences, they succeeded, but at a price. Edward was sent into a different world, while Alphonse was completely restored -- but as he was when the incident had first occurred, with no memories of the years that had passed in between, nor any physical sign that any time had passed at all -- as if he had stepped out of a time capsule.

Everyone who he talked to believed Ed was dead, but Alphonse would not believe it. He knew, deep down, that his beloved nii-san was alive – he had to be! – and he went searching for proof to confirm it. He even went so far as to grow his hair out and start wearing clothing, imitating his brother – as seen in photographs and heard about in stories – as close as possible.

He began re-studying alchemy, and learned the most interesting fact. He wasn’t exactly sure how or why, but he could detach parts of his soul from his body, and use them to bring inanimate objects to life. It wasn’t a permanent attachment—his soul did prefer being stuck to his body, after all—but it still worked.

During this time, he experienced numerous dreams that only served to confirm and confuse him. In his dreams, there was a world where everything was familiar, and yet strange, and colours were all faded. In that world, he was eighteen, and had a weak body, but was with his brother. At first he dismissed them, but the dreams kept on reoccurring, until Al could no longer ignore them as fantasy. Something was happening. Someone, perhaps even his detachable soul, was trying to tell him what was going on. Somehow—somehow he’d have to find his nii-san, even if it meant finding that other world.

With the help and sacrifice of Wrath – a homunculus, but one that Alphonse had managed to bond with over time (if only Ed could hear him say that!), he managed to open the gate that could reunite him…. And Edward somehow arrived from the other side, looking just as he had in Al’s dreams.

Al would have been delighted, if not for the ones that followed Ed there. A ship came – a flying machine unlike anything Al had ever seen before, full of men (if they even were men anymore) in suits of armor, ready to fight, conquer and destroy Central, perhaps even the entire country if given the chance.

Ed and Al fought back along with the military, and eventually infiltrated the ship and took control. Ed knew he would have to go through the gate again, and set off for the other side, giving Al direct orders to close it from that side, but Al could not bear to have that separation again. He returned to the ship at the last possible moment and hid in the suit of armor, hoping that Ed wouldn’t find him until they were on the other side, and that they could restart their lives together.
